How the estimate works
KDP calculates a print royalty as the royalty rate multiplied by the tax-exclusive list price, minus the printing cost. Paperback sales on Amazon marketplaces currently use a 50% or 60% rate based on the list-price threshold for that marketplace. Expanded Distribution uses 40%, while hardcover marketplace sales use 60%.
Printing costs change with marketplace, page count, ink, paper, and trim size. Enter the cost shown by KDP for your book. Taxes, withholding, currency conversion, refunds, and later policy changes are not included.
